I have written dozens of articles over the years about the lies of government institutions, but almost always after the fact, though it was obvious years ago that the then current administration was lying about Osama Bin Laden, our ex-employee, and the Iraq 9/11 connection. But now you have a chance to see how the lie campaigns are developed from the very beginning by media explosions about the point that the government wants to get across, and by silence or misinformation about the true state of affairs.
It is a political axiom that a crisis is an opportunity for politicians. It was expressed clearly by Obama’s chief of staff recently in these very words, “You never want a serious crisis to go to waste.” That’s what happened with 9/11, inside job or not.
Well, there’s a ready made crisis available at the border between Mexico and N. America and the lies and innuendos are already streaming in a flood from the fanatical anti gun politicians. As usual there is no respect for truth or fairness, only a relentless focus on the message that they want to have embedded in the public mind.
You know, if you have read my stuff, that I consider the disarming of the civilian population a standard practice among institutions working towards tyranny. History is full of such examples and we here in the USA are well into the stream leading to the river of total control of the population.
Before dealing with the lies already spoken and on the way about the Mexico border crisis, let’s look at how the ground is being laid by this administration to talk nice and act mean.
Illinois is possibly the most corrupt state politically in the nation. It may therefore not be entirely a coincidence that the first obvious assault on the citizen’s right to self defense comes from a representative of that state.
H.R. 45 was proposed by Rep. Bobby Rush, D-III of Chicago on his first day in session in the new 111th U.S. Congress. Here are a few of the things that H.R. 45 proposes:
It would force you to provide fingerprints, photographs and private mental health records, pay fees and pass written tests to get a federal five-year license to own any handgun.
Rather like the Washington D.C. laws I mentioned before, it would impose “safe storage” requirements that would make it impossible to use the weapon as self defense in your home.
It would outlaw private transfers of firearms between law-abiding adults.
It would require federal registration and record keeping of firearm transfers.
It would impose federal criminal penalties for failing to report the loss or theft of a firearm to the attorney general within three days.
It would give the attorney general what amounts to a “blank cheque” to impose any restrictions on the Second Amendment rights at whim, any time.
Anti-gun bills are being advanced in state legislatures nationwide, the most recent from the pure state of Illinois which proposes a million dollar insurance requirement for gun owners.
To make my own position clear on this matter… I don’t own a gun. I am a member of the NRA because they were the first civil rights organization. And to be fair, if I had the discretionary income I would certainly buy a gun in the current situation.
Obviously the Right to Keep and Bear Arms is being attacked by smooth tongued spin doctors. Hitler had similar ‘reasonable requests’ to disarm the German civilian population and bring about total fascist control in Germany. Britain has banned the ownership of firearms for similar “reasonable reasons.” The result has been a 900% increase in gun related crimes. Australia did the same, with the same political spin reasons, and has seen a tremendous increase in gun related crimes.
The blindness and stupidity of politicians is often beyond comprehension, but isn’t it obvious that no matter what laws are passed to hinder law abiding citizens, the criminals won’t care. It’s pretty obvious that crimes are not usually committed by someone with a legally registered firearm, unless it’s been stolen. It is clear that gun crimes are less in states where citizens can carry guns. It’s all obvious to anyone except to power hungry politicians desperate to gain votes from uninformed and emotionally stirred voters. “You never want a serious crisis to go to waste.”
So, what’s really going on about the Mexico border and the weapons used by the drug cartels? The drug cartels are violent criminals and use totally ruthless methods to enforce compliance, including kidnapping, torture and killing. The anti-gun movement is going to try to put this undoubted fact together with the lie that the violence in Mexico is the fault of American gun owners.
Mexican’s Attorney General Eduardo Medina Mora said, “The Second Amendment was never designed to arm criminal groups, and especially not foreign criminal groups as it is today.”
It’s not American criminal groups that are the problem in Mexico. It’s Mexican criminal groups. The drug cartels are more powerful in many places than the local governments. The cartels advertise for police to transfer allegiance to the cartels, offering huge pay raises. The cartels promise food and money to desperate people. Thousands accept. It is not American criminals doing this.
I have to point out that the gun laws in Mexico are far stricter than ours. But the Mexican politicians have the same blind spot as ours. They think that passing gun laws will stop criminals from committing violent acts.
In case you are informed about guns I mention that Mexico bans civilian possession of any firearms and ammunition used by the Mexican military, which includes the 9mm handguns and the .223 and .30 caliber rifles widely possessed and use by law-abiding gun owners in this country. That fact may be used to try to prohibit Americans from the same calibers.
The drug cartels take no notice of course. There are about 15 million firearms in Mexico according to recent estimates, and about one third of those are registered to obey the law.
The drug cartels often use grenade launchers and anti tank rockets, which you cannot buy in an American gun shop. The cartels don’t buy their guns from American gun shops. Banning every gun in America won’t make any different to the cartels. But blaming American gun owners for the problems in Mexico is one of the stories you will here.
Just remember this when the stories begin to appear on radio and TV without any dissenting voices. There are gun laws already on the books to punish anyone smuggling arms from America to Mexico. Those laws should be enforced. They won’t be enforced on the Mexican side of the border because of corruption.
There are policeman in Mexico being paid from $400,000 a MONTH to turn a blind eye when asked. Those who can pay that sort of money aren’t going to fuss about getting ten revolvers from a gun show in America. The drug cartels have BILLIONS at their disposal, because people buy drugs. Does it make sense that they will get the hundreds of weapons they need, and the grenade launchers and bulletproof vests, from Pete’s Gun and Tackle shop somewhere in Indiana. They get any weapons and equipment they want from the huge illegal and international weapons markets where the only asset needed is money. And they are better armed than the Mexican police and military because of that.
Don’t let the politicians blind you with their acted outrage about Americans supplying the drug trade with weapons. It’s nonsense. And you might also check on the hypocrisy of politicians screaming about the danger of guns in the hands of law-abiding citizens and then employing full time heavily armed bodyguards.
And if you are into reading high class magazines with an impeccable history you might check out the May 2009 issue of Harpers in your library. There is an interview there entitled The Sicaro, a Juárez Hit Man Speaks. It will give you a powerful insight into living in a culture run by drug cartels.
